After graduating from the University of London with a degree in International Relations, Alex embarked on a journey that would take him across the world. From the bustling streets of Tokyo to the tranquil beaches of Fiji, from the historic squares of Rome to the vibrant markets of Marrakech, Alex’s travels have given him a deep appreciation for the diversity and beauty of our world.
One of the most fascinating aspects of his travels has been experiencing the customs and traditions related to tipping and gratuity. Over the years, he’s observed that while tipping is a universal concept, the rules and expectations vary greatly from one country to another. Tipping in Japan, for example, is seen as rude, while not tipping in the United States can be seen as disrespectful.
In every country he visited, Alex made it a point to understand the local tipping etiquette, often going out of his way to talk to local service industry professionals, expats, and fellow travelers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the customs.
Recognizing the lack of a comprehensive guide to global tipping etiquette, Alex decided to use his extensive knowledge to create Tipping World.
